Have you ever sat in the audience of a theatre, in awe of the opening set or scrim, listening to the orchestra warming up, and just knowing you’re about to see something that will change your life? Well, that’s what I love about live theatre. There is nothing like it. The story telling begins almost before you even walk through the doors, see the programs and take your seat. For me, there is nothing like the opening notes of an overture, the thrill of trying to guess where the first performers will appear and what they’ll be wearing. I remember seeing my first big broadway show (Broadway Across Canada), and it was Wicked, of course. I was barely fourteen, and just sitting down in those seats, stage left by the proscenium, made me giddy with anticipation. And sure enough, the first few note of the overture were played, and I was instantly covered in goosebumps, head to toe, and bawling. Who knew. Music does something to the soul, and I have wanted to be a part of creating those reactions ever since I can remember.
With this blog, I hope to have somewhere to share my love of stories, music, and everything else! Stay tuned for some deeper thoughts, some backstage fun and some writing. It feels good to write again.
